Ohio Return-to-Play Law

Ohio's Return-to-Play Law went into effect on April 26, 2013. Youth sports organizations are required to:

  • Distribute a Parent/Athlete Concussion Information Sheet (PDF) annually for each sport.
  • Have its coaches, referees, or officials remove an athlete from play if the athlete is exhibiting signs or symptoms of a concussion during practice or a game.
  • Once removed from play, the athlete cannot return to play on the same day that the player was removed.
  • The athlete is not permitted to return to play until they have been assessed and receive written clearance from their physician.
